Cary McGehee Inducted into the Michigan Lawyers Weekly 2026 Hall of Fame
Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers proudly announces that founding partner Cary McGehee has been inducted into the Michigan Lawyers Weekly 2026 Hall of Fame class, an honor reflecting her extraordinary legal career and lasting impact on the profession.
Cary co-founded the firm more than three decades ago with a clear vision: to build an organization unafraid to take on powerful institutions and committed to delivering justice for those most in need of it. Since then, her leadership and advocacy have helped shape some of Michigan, and the nation's most consequential civil rights, employment, and class action litigations. Cary’s work in two class major class action lawsuits on behalf of women and youth who were sexually assaulted while incarcerated resulted in an $180 million settlement for those affected, and her central role in achieving the landmark $626 million settlement for the victims of the Flint Water Crisis reflects her lifelong commitment to advancing protections for vulnerable populations.
Cary combines strategic brilliance with deep conviction, setting a standard for excellence that continues to define the firm she built. Her collaboration with firm partner Channing Robinson-Holmes, who was recognized as part of Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s 2026 Clas of Up & Coming Lawyers, forced Michigan to address unconstitutional conditions in its prisons, and their advocacy together has helped individuals like Barbara Hernandez overturn a juvenile life-without-parole sentence after serving more than 30 years in prison.
Cary will be formally honored as part of the Michigan Lawyers Weekly 2026 Hall of Fame class on March 27, 2026, at The Mint at Michigan First Conference Center.
