Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers Files Racial, Religious, and Employment Discrimination Lawsuit Against Macomb Day Care
Attorney Channing Robinson-Holmes represents four former employees of God’s Love Overpowers Child Care in their racial, religious, and employment discrimination lawsuit against the day care and its owner, Laura Warrick.
The employees claim that Warrick fostered a racially hostile environment at the day care, particularly towards African American families, holding them to separate expectations than White families, threatening them, and making disparaging and inappropriate comments about African American families, sometimes in front of African American staff.
They also allege that Warrick created a toxic work environment by terminating employees without a legitimate basis, failing to provide required paid-time-off to employees, and forcing employees to participate in workplace "prayer" that was used to shame them for personal activities outside of work.
“My clients came forward because they are hoping to shed light on the discriminatory practices and provide accountability for Laura Warrick’s unlawful actions, and that’s on behalf of themselves but also on behalf of individuals that are still employed there, and the families there. We think it’s important for this information to come to light because of the continuing vulnerabilities of the people at the child care,” Channing told The Macomb Daily in an interview.
