Megan Bonanni Quoted in East Lansing Info on MSU’s 17-Month Reporting Delay

Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers Partner Megan Bonanni was quoted in East Lansing Info on Michigan State University’s 17-month delay in notifying state regulators that a university doctor had been removed from patient care following a report of sexual assault.

Megan Bonanni and co-counsel Lisa Esser represent a former patient of Arpit Saxena who says he sexually assaulted her during a January 2025 appointment she sought for hip pain after childbirth. Their filing in the Court of Claims gives notice of intent to pursue a civil claim against MSU for allegedly failing to take reasonable measures to prevent her abuse. According to the filing, MSU did not notify their client that Saxena had been accused of sexual assault by patients until September 14, 2026, or later.

MSU removed Saxena from seeing patients on April 7, 2025, four days after MSU Police received the first report, but did not alert the state Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) until September 9, 2026. A LARA spokesperson told the outlet the university was required under the state Public Health Code to report within 30 days.

Megan Bonanni, who previously represented survivors of former MSU doctor Larry Nassar, said the 17-month delay shows that little has changed at the university since that litigation.

“I was hopeful at the end of the Nassar litigation that policies would change, the university’s approach to these problems would change, and this 17-month delay is just solidifying that no, things really haven’t changed,” Megan Bonanni told East Lansing Info.
