Cary McGehee Interviewed About Mold Crisis at Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility

Founding Partner Cary McGehee was recently interviewed by ABC Detroit regarding the mold crisis at Michigan’s Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility, and the ongoing legal battle by inmates to live in humane conditions free of toxins

Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers represents three prisoners in Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility who allege that the damp and unkept ventilation systems produced mold and adversely affected their health, some with life threatening conditions due to mold allergies. The interview comes as both federal and state lawmakers demand answers from Michigan Department of Corrections officials about pervasive mold conditions and denied medical treatment at the facility.

Cary disputed the MDOC’s claims about timely remediation: "Words are cheap. The evidence says otherwise. Even their most recent physical assessment plant report says otherwise. This report reflects that their inspections show the HVAC system needs to be replaced and there's a lack of sufficient ventilation in the bathrooms and the showers, and that mold is thriving as a result."

Pitt McGehee Palmer Bonanni & Rivers remains committed to fighting for the health and safety of incarcerated individuals who deserve fair and humane living conditions.
