Danielle Young Canepa

Attorney

Danielle Canepa represents plaintiffs in employment and civil rights claims, including retaliation, discrimination, and sexual harassment. She devotes a substantial part of her practice to representing survivors of sexual assault. Danielle works closely with every client to tell their story, navigate the legal process, and find resolution.

Danielle’s ongoing litigation includes a sex and race discrimination suit against a public employer, a Family and Medical Leave Act retaliation case, and a Title IX sexual assault case in partnership with co-counsel against a major university on behalf of over 30 clients. She has recently secured settlements for her clients in cases involving race discrimination, wrongful termination, and violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Danielle joined the firm in January of 2022 following clerkships for the Hon. Laurie J. Michelson in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and in the Western District of Texas for the Hon. Robert Pitman, as well as for two federal magistrate judges. Before clerking, Danielle was a litigation associate at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C.  As a law student, Danielle served as a legal intern with the ACLU of Michigan in Detroit, the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. She graduated from Harvard Law School cum laude and received an award for providing over a thousand hours of pro bono service during law school.

Danielle is an active member of the Michigan Association for Justice and the National Employment Lawyers Association. She serves on the Diversity Committee for the Federal Bar Association for the Eastern District of Michigan and on a number of committees for her alma mater, Mercy High School. Danielle spends her free time with her husband and family, outdoors and up north as much as possible.
