Michael Pitt Calls Bill to End State Bar Fees an "Overreaction"

A proposal which would make the State Bar of Michigan membership fees optional is being met with some attorney derision, who claim, according to Crain's Detroit Business, nothing more than political posturing. Pitt McGehee Palmer Rivers & Golden Partner Michael Pitt was quoted in the article, saying the move was an "overreaction." He told Crains' "All we're talking about is an independent judiciary. Asking for disclosure is the bar's attempt to build more neutrality and transparency into the system; and the bar has a responsibility to make sure the court system runs fairly." Pitt said the State Bar's actions were supported nearly unanimously among the assembly -- which has Democrat and Republican members.
