MLive, WNEM, Fox 66 Cover Summer Release of Pitt Client Juvenile Lifer Henry Hill

From MLive SAGINAW, MI -- It was the day Henry Hill Jr.'s sister had been holding out hope 35 years for, and it didn't matter that she lived more than 1,500 away or that she had work; she'd be there. "This is the day I've been waiting for, for my brother to be released," said Marva Jones, wiping tears from her eyes. "God is so great." Henry Hill Jr. was re-sentenced Thursday, May 4, to 34 to 60 years in prison for a 1980 homicide he'd committed as a 16-year-old. He had previously been serving life in prison without parole. Because he's already served nearly 35 years, his parole hearing is expected to be expedited. One of Hill's attorneys, Robert Dunn, said he believes Hill will be released by summer of this year.

"The man who stands before you today in no way resembles the man who came to the prison system 35 years ago," one of Hill's attorneys, Michael Pitt, said. "He came to prison really as a young punk ... He stands before the court as a fully developed human being." Hill was the first of 21 men in Saginaw County to be re-sentenced on life without parole sentences they received for murders they committed as youths.
