Jennifer Lord Provides Insight on UIA False Fraud Class Action at NYC Symposium on Harmful AI

Jennifer Lord was a guest presenter at the AI Now Institute's 2019 Symposium "The Growing Pushback Against Harmful AI." The event was held at NYU Skirball Center in New York City in early October.

The symposium, attended by a sell-out crowd of 850 people, brought Lord and a dozen other lawyers, scholars and tech workers together to share their experiences in confronting and combating harmful AI-based systems in a wide range of contexts.

Lord was interviewed by Kate Crawford (AI Now co-founder) regarding the class action lawsuit against the State of Michigan.  She explained how the state's Unemployment Insurance Agency utilized a faulty algorithmic decision-making system which falsely accused over 40,000 claimants of benefits fraud.
