Wage & Hours Claims

Michigan Wage and Hour Attorneys

Employers who require overtime work often claim their workers are not entitled to time-and-a-half pay as required in the law. To avoid this requirement, employers often misclassify employees as exempt, or force employees to work “off the clock.” Our attorneys are thoroughly grounded in the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the law that defines exempt and non-exempt employees. We use our understanding of the law and our experience litigating many wage and hour cases, and to help individual workers and groups of employees who have been denied required overtime. For more information about minimum wage, overtime requirements and the FLSA, contact our Michigan law firm, Pitt, McGehee, Palmer, Rivers & Golden .

FLSA and Class Actions

FLSA allows employees to sue for unpaid overtime, damages, and attorney’s fees and costs in wage and hours cases. It is frequently more effective to develop group, or class action cases. Such cases allow many workers in a company or industry to file claims together. We have found that employers who deny required overtime to one employee are frequently doing the same to others. Filing group claims in wage and hours cases puts an employer on notice that his or her overtime pay practices will not be tolerated. The outcome of a group wage and hours claim can make the workplace better for all employees.
